With the goal of informing and influencing national and international policy dialogue, the East Asia Program provides research on China’s foreign and security policies, the political and social sustainability of China’s rise, Japan’s evolving political landscape in the post-Fukushima era, intra-Korean relations, and Northeast Asian security dynamics, as well as on political and security issues in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. The Program, in cooperation with the Australian Centre on China in the World (CIW), organises a monthly China Forum.

The Lowy Institute–Rio Tinto China Fellowship

This unique partnership provides a two-month fellowship for a senior Chinese analyst at the Lowy Institute and a three-month fellowship for an Australian analyst, including two months of field work in China. This three-year fellowship program will contribute much needed voices to public discourse on Australia-China relations, while also strengthening the Institute's engagement with China.
