Chinese perceptions on investing in Australia - Dr Zha Daojiong

Australia is a new and significant destination for Chinese investment. This presentation by Professor Zha Daojiong of Peking University will include initial findings made during his time as the inaugural Lowy Institute-Rio Tinto China Fellow. The presentation will address three topics drivers of direct investment from China: interactions between Chinese and Australian entities in addressing mutual concerns; and the possible paths for exploration between China and Australia in the future.

Dr Zha Daojiong is the inaugural Lowy Institute-Rio Tinto China Fellowship. He is a professor of international political economy at the School of International Studies at Peking University. Over the past decade, he has focused on understanding interactions between China and the rest of the world in trade and development of energy, food, and cross-border water use. Professor Zha is editor of Managing Regional Energy Vulnerabilities in East Asia (Routledge, 2012), first author of Building a Neighborly Community: Post Cold War China, Japan, and Southeast Asia (Manchester University Press, 2006), author of The Political Economy of China's Oil Security (China Modern World Press, 2005), and editor of Chinese Scholars View the World: Non-traditional Security (China New World Press, 2006). Professor Zha has also published dozens of refereed articles in Chinese and English. He obtained a doctorate in political science from the University of Hawaii and has held teaching and research positions in Japan, the United States, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
