Event: An address by His Excellency Mr Petro Poroshenko, President of Ukraine

The Lowy Institute was delighted to host a special address by His Excellency Mr Petro Poroshenko, President of Ukraine on Friday, 12 December 2014.

In his address, President Poroshenko discussed the security situation in eastern Ukraine, its impact on international relations architecture and the importance of the Australia-Ukraine bilateral relationship. 

President Poroshenko is a highly successful businessman and entered politics in the 1990s. He was elected President of Ukraine in May 2014. From 2009 to 2010 he was Foreign Minister and in 2012 became Minister of Trade and Economic Development, a role which he used to bring Ukraine closer to the European Union.
