On Monday 22 June, join us for a conversation between Lowy Institute International Economy and G20 Studies Centre Program Directior, Dr Leon Berkelmans, and Lowy Institute visiting scholar, Dr Yu Ye. Dr Ye is a political economist and Associate Professor at the Shanghai Institute for International Studies (SIIS), one of China’s leading think tanks.

Dr Ye has completed research on the role of China in global economic governance, with a focus on the G20, the World Bank, and the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) New Development Bank. With the establishment of the Asian Investment and Infrastructure Bank (AIIB) and China’s upcoming G20 presidency in 2016, the conversation about China’s new role in global economic governance is especially pertinent.

Dr Berkelmans was previously a Senior Manager at the Reserve Bank of Australia, where he worked on the Chinese and Indian economies. Prior to the RBA, Leon worked at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington D.C.. He has a PhD in economics from Harvard University. The Lowy Institute’s International Economy program aims to explain developments in the international economy, and closely follows the Chinese economy. @leonberkelmans
