After Obama: What's Next for US Foreign Policy

Join us on Tuesday 4 August for a conversation with one of America’s most insightful foreign policy analysts, David Rothkopf. David will speak with the Lowy Institute’s Executive Director, Dr Michael Fullilove, on the topic of US foreign policy after the Obama administration.

David J. Rothkopf is CEO and Editor of the FP Group, and is also the President and CEO of Garten Rothkopf, an international advisory company specializing in global political risk, energy, resource, technology and emerging markets issues based in Washington, D.C.

He is the author of numerous internationally acclaimed books including most recently National Insecurity: Making U.S. Foreign Policy in an Age of Fear, Power, Inc., Superclass and Running the World.  He writes a weekly column for Foreign Policy, a regular column for CNN and is a frequent contributor to leading newspapers, magazines including The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Financial Times, CNN, Newsweek, Time, and many others.

In addition, Mr. Rothkopf is a visiting scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, chairman of the National Strategic Investment Dialogue and serves or has recently served as a member of the advisory boards of the Center for Global Development, the Center for the Study of the Presidency, the U.S. Institute of Peace and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Dr Michael Fullilove is the Executive Director of the Lowy Institute for International Policy.

He has been associated with the Lowy Institute since its establishment. He wrote the feasibility study for the Institute in 2002 and served as the Director of its Global Issues Program from 2003 to 2012. He has also worked as a Visiting Fellow in Foreign Policy at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC, an adviser to Prime Minister Paul Keating, and a lawyer. He remains a Nonresident Senior Fellow at Brookings.

Dr Fullilove writes widely on Australian foreign policy, US foreign policy and global issues in publications including The New York Times, Financial Times, The Washington Post, Foreign Policy, The National Interest and Foreign Affairs, as well as the Australian press. He is a sought-after media commentator and speaker in Australia and abroad, appearing on programs such as Radio National Breakfast, Lateline and the Charlie Rose Show. He graduated in arts and law from the Universities of Sydney and New South Wales, with dual university medals. He also studied as a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford, where he took a master's degree and a doctorate in international relations.

Dr Fullilove is the author of Rendezvous with Destiny: How Franklin D. Roosevelt and Five Extraordinary Men Took America into the War and into the World (Penguin), which won the 2014 NSW Premier's Literary Award for Non-Fiction. He is the co-editor, with Anthony Bubalo, of Reports from a Turbulent Decade (Viking), an anthology of the Lowy Institute's best work. He is also the editor of Men and Women of Australia! Our Greatest Modern Speeches (Viking).
