Event: Foreign correspondents in the field

Tue, 29 July 2014
Sydney

In 2013, the Lowy Institute launched its inaugural Media Awards in an effort to enrich the discussion of global issues in Australia.

As part of this initiative and in the lead up to the 2014 Lowy Institute Media Award, on 29 July we invite you to join us for a panel discussion with Zoe Daniel, ABC Foreign Correspondent and Stan Grant, Sky News, as they share their experiences working in the field as Australian Foreign correspondents.

Zoe Daniel was the ABC's Africa correspondent during 2005 and 2006 and spent 2009 covering the Khmer Rouge war crimes trials from Phnom Penh in Cambodia. She was the ABC's South East Asia correspondent until December 2013. Her frank memoir, Storyteller, is a personal account of Zoe's experiences as one of only a handful of women to combine motherhood with reporting from the danger zone.

Stan Grant is the International Editor at SKY NEWS and anchors the evening program Reporting LIVE with Stan Grant on SKY NEWS National. He returned to Australia in late 2012 following 11 years working for CNN where he began as an anchor in Hong Kong, before relocating to Beijing as correspondent.

In 2006 Stan was recognised once again with two awards; Best Current Affairs Presenter and Best Current Affairs Report for his coverage of the Pakistan Earthquake in ‘Rising from the Ruins'.
