Event: The Hon. Bill Shorten MP, Leader of the Opposition

In the lead up to the 2015 Paris climate change negotiations, the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon Bill Shorten MP, will give a major policy address at the Lowy Institute for International Policy outlining the Opposition’s position on international action on climate change.
 
Bill Shorten MP was elected to the House of Representatives in 2007. From 2007 to 2010, he served as Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities and Children’s Services, introducing the National Disability Insurance Scheme. In September 2010, Mr Shorten was appointed as Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Financial Services and Superannuation. In 2011, he was promoted to Cabinet as the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations. He was elected leader of the parliamentary Labor Party in October 2013. Before his election to Parliament, Mr Shorten was the National Secretary of the Australian Workers Union from 2001 to 2007.
