Event: The Hon Julie Bishop MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs

On Monday, 20 June the Lowy Institute is delighted to host the Hon Julie Bishop MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, as part of a series of lectures by political leaders in the lead-up to the 2016 federal election. She will give the final address in this lecture series, less than two weeks before the federal election on Saturday, 2 July.

Ms Bishop was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1998. In September 2013, she was sworn in as Australia’s first female Foreign Minister. She has previously served as a Cabinet Minister in the Howard Government, including as Minister for Education, Science and Training, and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Women’s Issues. She has also served on various parliamentary and policy committees, including as Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties.
