Event: The Indonesia Update in Sydney Co-hosted with the Indonesia Project, ANU

The Lowy Institute for International Policy, in cooperation with the Indonesia Project at the Australian National University, is pleased to invite you to a Sydney edition of the Update on Indonesia. The Update will take place at the Lowy Institute on Monday, 21 September. The Update will include presentations on recent developments in Indonesian politics, foreign policy, economics, trade policy, and the politics of the natural resources business.

The Indonesia Update has been an annual event in Canberra since 1983; this is the tenth time we have held a Sydney edition.

The agenda for the Sydney leg of the Update is as follows:

Session 1: Political and Foreign Policy Update

  • Q&A and discussion to follow, moderated by Lowy Institute East Asia Program Director Dr Merriden Varrall

Session 2: Economic and Business Update

  • Economic Update: Dr Arief Yusuf, lecturer, Padjadjaran University
  • Trade Policy in Indonesia: Dr Arianto Patunru, Fellow at the ANU and co-author of Bad Times, Bad Policy 
  • Nationalism in the Resources Industry: Eve Warburton, ANU
  • Q&A and discussion to follow, moderated by Dr Stephen Grenville AO, Nonresident Fellow of the Lowy Institute
