Event: Private breakfast with Mr Matteo Renzi, Prime Minister of Italy

The Lowy Institute was privileged to host the Prime Minister of Italy, Mr Matteo Renzi, for a private breakfast on Monday, 17 November 2014.

Matteo Renzi is the youngest person to be elected as Prime Minister in Italian history.

Prime Minister Renzi first took to the political stage in 2004 when he was elected as President of the Province of Florence. He developed a reputation as a strong administrator with an innovative but moderate political agenda and in 2009, challenged the official candidate of the Democratic Party and comfortably won the election for the Mayor of Florence. Prime Minister Renzi is also the incumbent President of the Council of the European Union since July 2014.
