Wed, 29 April 2015
Sydney

The Lowy Institute is pleased to invite you to a conversation between Lowy Institute Research Director, Anthony Bubalo, and the ABC’s Hayden Cooper. The winner of 2014 Lowy Institute Media Award will discuss his time reporting for the ABC on the Middle East, including some of the big stories he covered, from the Peter Greste trial in Egypt to the 2014 war in Gaza.

Hayden Cooper was the ABC's Middle East Correspondent from late 2013 until early 2015. Based in Jerusalem, he covered events across the region - reporting from Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, Gaza, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Hayden's coverage of the arrest and trial of Australian journalist Peter Greste was honoured with a Walkley Award, the Lowy Institute prize for foreign reporting, and a Logie Awards nomination for outstanding news coverage. He also won a Walkley Award for his television and radio coverage of the 2014 war in Gaza. An experienced journalist, Hayden previously reported for the 7.30 program in Sydney, and spent six years as a political correspondent based in the Canberra press gallery. He's been with the ABC for 15 years.
