The Western-led efforts to establish a new, post-Taliban order in Afghanistan have met with limited success, and there is much concern about Afghanistan's future after 2014. In this week's Lowy Lecture, Dr Astri Suhrke, a political scientist and senior researcher at the Chr. Michelsen Institute in Bergen (Norway) discussed her recent book on Afghanistan, which argues that deep, internal tensions in the international engagement in themselves were significant reasons for the modest progress.
