Nikki Marczak is leading the work of the Asia Pacific Centre for The Responsibility to Protect with the Asia-Pacific Atrocity Prevention Partnership (APPAP), which involves advancing research and networks in the region aimed at preventing atrocities. Nikki is a genocide scholar and survivor advocate whose work has been published by academic journals, policy think tanks and media outlets. She is a member of the Australian Institute for Holocaust and Genocide Studies and co-editor of Genocide Perspectives V and VI (forthcoming). 

Prior to her recent participation in a German Government program on issues for descendants of victims of the Nazis, Nikki was the Deputy Director of Nadia’s Initiative (the program of Yazidi activist Nadia Murad) and Yazda’s Australia Director. In addition to her ongoing commitment to justice for the Yazidi Genocide, she has worked with the Armenian community, including as ‘Lemkin Scholar’ with the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute in 2016. Nikki has extensive experience in policy development for government and in stakeholder consultation. She has a Masters in Holocaust and Genocide Studies and a BA in Political Science and Aboriginal Studies.

The Asia Pacific Centre for the Responsibility to Protect (APR2P) at the University of Queensland is the only regional centre specifically dedicated to advancing the Responsibility to Protect principle. Its work involves research and policy dialogue on atrocity prevention, as well as establishing partnerships with civil society organisations and government bodies to build capacity and connect regional expertise.
