Philipp is the China specialist and the Founder of Geopolitical Risks and Strategy Practice advising companies, governments, universities and their leaders on geostrategy and risk. He is a Senior Fellow at the Asia Society Policy Institute in New York, where he founded the China-Russia Program.  He is a Visiting Scholar, Center for Australian, New Zealand and Pacific Studies, School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University. He serves on the advisory boards of Global Women Asia and Geopolitical Strategy.

He is a former Chief Programming Officer at Asia Society New York, and for 8 years served as the CEO of Asia Society Australia. He is the recipient of the Fulbright and Endeavour Executive fellowships. Previously, Philipp worked on China policy at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, was a Deputy Director of the Research Institute for Asia and the Pacific at the University of Sydney and advised the University of Sydney on China strategy.  His analysis has appeared in the New York Times, Voice of America, Financial Times, South China Morning Post, Foreign Policy, The Australian, Bloomberg, CNBC, and The Australian Financial Review.
