In an interview published by the New York Times (see the full transcript here), US President-elect Donald Trump significantly softened his rhetoric on climate change, saying he has an 'open mind' to it and that he is 'looking at it very closely' – a marked change from previous statements he's made. This week I spoke with Dr Sam Geall, a research fellow at the Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex, associate fellow at Chatham House, and executive editor of China Dialogue, about the future of international climate change negotiations and the prospects of China adopting a leadership role in this space, as well as China's domestic environmental and energy policies and grassroots environmentalism.
