Steve Weintz responds to Sam Roggeveen's post on airports as national symbols:
The Architecture - Design Museum in Los Angeles is currently running a major retrospective on Earo Saarinen, the designer of Dulles International and the TWA Terminal at JFK in New York. Like Oscar Niemeyer, Saarinen captured the Tomorrowland zeitgeist of the Sputnik-New Frontier era in a way that resonates today. (An American has but to look at such a building and remember that the future Donald Fagan sang about in 'IGY' was just around the corner.)
