Hamish Fejo

Hamish Fejo is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). He most recently served as Second Secretary at the Australian High Commission in London, where he led on climate change and the Pacific during the UK’s COP26 and G7 presidencies. He has previously served in Nauru and occupied bilateral and multilateral roles within the department in Canberra.

Hamish was on secondment from DFAT as the inaugural recipient of the DFAT Indigenous Visiting Fellowship at the Lowy Institute. He worked in the Institute’s Pacific Islands Program, with a focus on First Nations foreign policy and climate change.

Hamish is a proud Larrakia man and was a member of the Australian delegations at the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) in 2018 and COP26 in 2021. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Politics from the University of New South Wales and a Master’s degree in Asian and Pacific Studies from the Australian National University.
